Pre-School Experiences
Experiences throughout the day are often spontaneous but are also planned based on the children's interests, needs and strengths. We provide experiences to develop the child’s sense of self, the communicating child, the thinking child, the physically, healthy active child, the social, moral and feeling child.
Language experiences that encourage receptive and expressive language informally and in more formal group times. Culturally and linguistically diverse children are supported to learn English but families are encouraged to keep their first language.
Music/songs/movement occur informally and during larger group times. Music develops musical concepts, body awareness, listening skills and is also a great deal of fun.
Dramatic play - Building self esteem and confidence is a high priority as children learn to socialise together, get along with their peers and role play in many of the indoor/outdoor activities.
Exploratory play - Children are encouraged to use materials in their environment such as sand, water and paint. These are most enjoyable as children learn many maths/science/sensory concepts through play. Our secret gardens and wet/dry creek bed are wonderful areas for free play.
Cognitive - Many of the experiences already mentioned link to cognitive experiences. Children are encouraged to concentrate, problem solve, think, experiment and explore as they do puzzles, pre reading, pre writing activities, craft. Early literacy is encouraged but formal reading/writing is not taught.
Fine Motor - Many of the experiences such as threading, drawing, craft, painting, puzzles, manipulative games develop the muscles in children's hands and fingers.
Gross Motor - The two play grounds provide different experiences for the children that include - climbing, balancing, sliding, running, jumping, ball throwing, catching, skipping and kicking.
